A Ben Askren retirement from professional fighting is nearing.

“Funky” Ben Askren has long been regarded as one of the best fighters to never sign with the UFC. The former Bellator MMA champion has also been a fixture in Singaporean promotion ONE Championship for the past few years, but he’ll soon step away from fighting.

The promotion’s head Chatri Sityodtong recently announced the news via social media, stating that Askren would take on former ONE lightweight champion Shinya Aoki in Singapore. Additionally, Sityodtong said that this would be Askren’s last fight; afterwhich, he’ll take on a position as a ONE “executive.”

Sityodtong also announced that Hawaiian-raised Singaporean-American Angela Lee would return on the same card to defend her atomweight title against Mei Yamaguchi. This would be a rematch of their first fight in May 2016, where Lee claimed the vacant title via decision.
