MMA champion Eduard Folayang is finally getting the recognition he deserves, garnering praise and awards, most recently at the 2016 SPIN.ph Sportsman of the Year awards night.

Folayang was recognized as the “Sportsman Who Personifies the Filipino Fight Spirit.” This seems only fitting as he captured the ONE Championship lightweight belt after a rollercoaster MMA career that included knockout blows and bloody losses.

The fighter from Baguio was honored alongside several other standout sportsmen and sportswomen. Other awardees included Ginebra basketball team coach Tim Cone, La Salle mentor Aldin Ayo, Rio Paralympics bronze medal winner Josephine Medina, former PSC Commissioner Jolly Gomez, and Rio silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

In his acceptance speech, Folayang gave thanks to God, his supporters, and his long-time friend and coach Mark Sangiao, who was in attendance at the event held in Crown Plaza, Ortigas.
