Eduard Folayang TKOs Shinya Aoki, wins lightweight title

Eduard Folayang

Eduard Folayang has just shocked the world to win the ONE FC lightweight belt from Shinya Aoki.

Team Lakay’s Eduard “Landslide” Folayang just put on the performance of a lifetime.

His opponent, ONE FC lightweight champ Shinya Aoki, was undefeated since 2012 going into this bout. A BJJ and judo black belter, his submission grappling game has been recognized as oneĀ of the most deadly in MMA.

In his bout against Folayang, he showed off his technical prowess on the ground. He even had “Landslide” in back control as he attempted to secure a submission.

Folayang prevailed, however, and scored a jumping knee strike to the head of Aoki in the early goings of the third round as the Japanese fighter went in for a takedown. It clearly rocked him. Folayang fended off the takedown, landed another knee to the head, putting Aoki’s back on the mat. “Landslide” began pouring down strikes, who covered up in defense.

Several unanswered punches later and with more than half of the round to go, the referee stepped in to save Aoki from further punishment.

Folayang raised his arms in victory. He’s now the ONE FC lightweight champion.

This title win comes after a whirlwind of a career. From impressive wins to devastating losses, Folayang had to pay his dues in the promotion since signing on back in March 2012.

Lo and behold, consecutive wins over Tetsuya Yamada and Adrian Pang set him up for his title shot in Singapore. Evidently, he made the most of the opportunity.
