Ellenberger vs. Saffiedine targeted for UFC Singapore

The UFC will be holding its first event in South-East Asia when it visits Singapore on January 4th, and Jake Ellenberger vs. Tarec Saffiedine has been penciled for the fight card.

Last August, word broke out that the UFC would be holding a fight card in SG to start 2014.

“We want to start the year with a bang and hopefully visitors on holiday in Singapore will stay on to catch the show here,” said UFC Asia Managing Director Mark Fischer.

And now, the card gets its first addition in welterweight contenders Ellenberger vs Saffiedine.

Ellenberger is 29-7 in his career and coming off a decision loss to Rory MacDonald. Following his impressive KO wins over former Strikeforce champions Jake Shield and Nate Marquardt, it looked like “The Juggernaut” was on his way to the top of the division, but his loss to MacDonald severely side-tracked that. He’ll have his chance to get back in the title hunt when he faces off against the last Strikeforce welterweight champ Tarec Saffiedine.

Saffiedine, on the other hand, is 14-3 in his career and is riding a four-fight winning streak. His upcoming bout with Ellenberger will mark his UFC debut, and a win would put him in prime position at the upper echelon of the division.
