Darwin Sagurit claims brace title

Heavy-handed bantamweight Darwin Sagurit claims BRACE title in an impressive TKO finish.

Filipino-Australian bantamweight Darwin Sagurit claims the BRACE title in the bantamweight division last week in Canberra, Australia. He won the coveted gold by defeating Richie Ivory via TKO.

In the opening part of the fight that lasted only one round, Sagurit took a barrage of punches from Ivory, but managed to weather the strikes. He quickly turned the tide with a powerful right hook that sent Ivory to the canvas. A follow-up of crashing hammer fists forced the referee to halt the contest. “Sugar” claimed the title at the 50-second mark of the first round.

Sagurit, a product of the Australian Top Team, faced a rough road toward the title shot. He started his pro-MMA career with back-to-back losses. After putting in the work at the gym, he earned five straight wins from tough opponents that included Gustavo Falciroli. He also plied his trade in the Philippines early this year at PXC 53 against Rex de Lara. However, his streak was halted with a unanimous decision loss.

At BRACE 42, Sagurit bounced back with a victory over Byron Cowell to earn a crack at the belt.

BRACE MMA is an Australian-based organization and has produced the likes of UFC vets Damien Brown, Alex Chambers and Bec Rawlings.
