Gegard Mousasi withstands ex-champ Shlemenko; Julaton absorbs split decision loss in Bellator debut

Mousasi Bellator

Gegard Mousasi picked up his first Bellator win Ana Julaton was at the losing end of the scorecards at Bellator 185.

Former UFC middleweight contender Gegard Moussi picked up a close unanimous decision victory against former Bellator light heavyweight champ Alexander Shlemenko.

In his first foray at Bellator, Mousasi got caught with a huge left hand by Shlemenko, resulting to a near-closed right eye. Still, he was able to secure favorable positions on the ground.

By the third round, Shlemenko started to stuff Mousasi’s takedown attempts while connecting on his strikes to steal the round. However, it just wasn’t enough to convince the judges, who awarded the fight in favor of Mousasi.

In the undercard, Filipino-American Ana Julaton wasn’t able to get the result she wanted, suffering a split-decision loss to Lisa Blaine. The former WBO and IBA champ tried to keep the fight standing but ended up being taken down several times by Blaine. In the end, Blaine got the nod from two of the three judges: 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.

Like Julaton, fellow former-boxing champ Heather Hardy absorbed her first professional loss in her fight against Kristina Williams. “The Heat” got caught by Williams’ left head kick, which left her bleeding profusely. This forced the referee to end the fight in the 2:00 mark of the second round.
