Fully recovered from a knee injury, Igor Subora set to return in ONE FC as a light heavyweight.

In November of 2015, Igor Subora suffered a knee injury during a heavyweight clash against Alain Ngalani. This resulted in a first-round TKO defeat at the hands of Ngalani and the third loss of Subora’s career.

Now fully recovered, the FIST Gym fighter Subora set to return this January in Indonesia; this time in ONE FC’s light heavyweight division.

“I am very excited to get back to competition. I’ve been out for quite some time, but training after the surgery has been great. I feel healthy and ready,” Subora tells DojoDrifter.com.

After the completion of his rehab, Subora has been itching to return inside the cage. The 36-year old former URCC heavyweight titleholder trained with top fighters that include former UFC middleweight Mark Muñoz, Bellator’s AJ Matthews, and fellow One Championship fighters Brandon Vera and Mark Striegl.

Subora says that training with these men helped him add more weapons to his arsenal in preparation for his upcoming fight. He hopes that it will be for the long run since Vera and Matthews, both Alliance MMA fighters, are based in the country. There are talks that Vera plans to open a branch in the Philippines.

“I feel like I’ll be the best prepared for this fight than ever, AJ (Matthews) is gonna be in my corner and I really appreciate him taking his time teaching me some great stuff as well as Brandon.”

Subora adds, “I hope we can train always together. It’s hard to find sparring partners with same weight as me or even close, so it’s good I have this opportunity. I am coming mentally and physically ready for whatever.”

Asked about his thought on his next opponent, Sherif Mohamed, Subora likes his chances. He is confident that he’ll get his much-awaited win this time around.

“Sherif is 8-and-2, but there is only one question if he is ready for what I am bringing,” Subora says. “I had less fights than him but I consider myself the more experienced fighter. His last 6 fights were against opponents with a 0-and-0 record.”

He quips, “I know he is gonna be 100% for this fight, so I’ll be ready. I am confident I’ll get the win. You will see my hand raised this time.”
