Max Holloway-Frankie Edgar title fight to headline UFC 218

UFC 218

Max Holloway will face Frankie Edgar for the UFC featherweight belt at UFC 218!

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will be defending his title against Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 218 in Detroit, the promotion announced today.

Fresh off his unification bout versus Jose Aldo last June, when he won the belt via TKO, “Blessed” will put his title on the line against the perennial contender Edgar. The Hawaiian champ, who visited his Filipino fans last year, currently owns the longest active win streak in the UFC (11 wins) and looks to continue his winning ways.

Edgar, meanwhile, is looking to finally win his first title at 145lbs after two failed attempts in the past. The 35-year-old native of Tom’s River, New Jersey is coming of a TKO win of Yair Rodriguez at UFC 211 in May. The former UFC lightweight champ now stands the chance to become only the 4th fighter to ever hold UFC titles from two different weight classes.

ESPN first reported the fight announcement.

For the co-main event, heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou will slug it out as announced by the promotion.
