Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez is the official main event for UFC 205, the promotion’s first in New York City.
The UFC has officially announced this matchup via their website. This bout will be contested at lightweight.
Alvarez is the reigning lightweight champ while McGregor holds the featherweight belt, a title he won by KO-ing Jose Aldo in 13 seconds last year, and one he has yet to defend.
McGregor will move lightweight to challenge Alvarez for his title. In the UFC’s statement on UFC.com, McGregor will retain his featherweight strap even though this will be his third fight in a division outside of featherweight.
Should he win, then he would make history as the first and only fighter to hold UFC titles from two different weight classes at the same time.
