GSP vs. Bisping has officially been announced by UFC president Dana White.
White made the announcement today on ESPN “SportsCenter.”
Since last week’s news that Georges St.-Pierre (GSP) had re-signed with the UFC, there has been much speculation as to who he’d fight in his return following a 3-year hiatus.
Names of UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping, former middleweight champ Anderson Silva, welterweight standout Nick Diaz, and lightweight champ Conor McGregor have all been thrown into the mix. GSP’s famed Tristar Gym coach Firas Zahabi has also gone on record to say that their ideal opponent would either be Bisping or McGregor.
Either fight would no doubt draw in big numbers, and with McGregor on break awaiting the birth of his first child, it looks like Bisping will get the first crack at the returning French-Canadian.
According to MMAFighting.com reporter Ariel Helwani, there will be a press con with both GSP and Bisping this coming Friday (US Time). Helwani adds that White never considered a GSP vs. McGregor matchup.
There is no date set yet for this fight, which will be for Bisping’s UFC middleweight title.
