ONE FC 50 results

Fernandes and Vera retained their titles in contrasting styles at ONE FC 50.

Brazilian champ Bibiano Fernandes shrugged off a broken nose and defeated Reece McLaren via split decision to retain his title in ONE FC’s 50th card at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Friday night.

“The Flash” immediately took his challenger to the ground and was able to create an early lead in the first two rounds. But a punch by McLaren broke the champion’s nose in the third that changed the momentum to his favor.

In the championship rounds, both men fought tooth and nail. McLaren continued to give Fernandes problems in the standup with his speed and footwork. However, Fernandes used his vast experience to subdue the Australian. Until the closing seconds, the two fighters went all out, engaging in a slugfest.

After the fight two of the three judges saw the fight in favor of Fernandes. Thus, winning his fifth straight title defense since unifying the belts in 2013.

In the main event, Brandon Vera made quick work of Hideki Sakine to retain his heavyweight belt. He defeated the Japanese via TKO at the 3:11 mark of round 1.

Team Lakay went 3-2 in the evening as Honorio Banario and Danny Kingad showed their improving ground game to submit Rajinder Singh Meena and Eugene Toquero respectively. Eduard Kelly continued his winning ways by stopping Sunoto in the first round of their encounter.

April Osenio and Geje Eustaquio weren’t as fortunate as their teammates as they fell short in their assignments.
