Pinay model-turned-fighter Rome Trinidad is ready to win on enemy territory

Rome Trinidad is out to prove that she’s more than just a pretty face.

Rome “The Rebel” isn’t your typical model. She’s been modeling since her teens for print ads and TV commercials, but while she isn’t posing for the camera, she’s gutting it out in the gym, trading punches, takedowns, and submissions with her fellow MMA fighters. That’s because MMA has provided her with a high that’s hard to find elsewhere.

“I’ve been training MMA since 2015,” she told Dojo Drifter. “I just love the challenge. It makes me wild!”

Trinidad had built on her “Sikaran” fighting style by adding Jiu-jitsu and other arts. And in April 2017, her love for MMA inspired her to test her skills in amateur competition. She competed at Underground Battle 20 “Rambulan sa Galera”, where she won impressively via TKO. After the win, she got a call from Singaporean promotion ONE Championship, and she jumped at the chance to fight as a pro. “I decided to go pro to explore new levels, opportunities, and experiences,” she said.

In her first fight as a pro, she’ll be given Thai-Jap fighter Rika “Tinydoll” Ishige (2-1) as her opponent on ONE’s card in Bangkok, Thailand. The 20-year-old is eager to make her pro debut against Ishige, and she doesn’t care if her opponent has the home advantage.

“[Making my pro debut against Ishige is] exciting and at the same time there’s pressure on me to win, but the pressure makes me more motivated,” Trinidad shared. “It’s her own home country but I don’t care who she is or where she came from, what the matters is the fight.”

Ishige is being groomed as a legitimate prospect in ONE, and she’ll attempt to bounce back from her loss to Filipina Jomary Torres last August. However, Trinidad watched that fight and is confident she can capitalize on Ishige’s weaknesses.

“I saw that I can use my striking and ground skills [against Ishige]. No mercy!”
