Pinoy Fighters Dominate One FC in Singapore

The One Championship: Champion vs. Champion took place last September 3rd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, Singapore and featured some of the best MMA talent from across Asia. UFC vets Phil Baroni and Yoshiyuki Yoshida slugged it out for three full rounds but the showstoppers had to be the URCC champs, Eduardo “Landslide” Folayang and Eric Kelly, who each took home wins from their respective action-packed bouts.

In the main event of the evening, Folayang, who is considered by many to be today’s top Pinoy MMA fighter, broke his nose in the first round against South Korea’s A Sol Kwon but was relentless in his attack, earning him a victory by unanimous decision.
Watch this video and witness his powerful strikes, his Judo and wrestling takedowns, and his sheer determination in the cage:

In what could be described as the most spectacular finish of the evening, Yaw-Yan fighter Eric Kelly, who has won all of his previous six professional bouts via submission, finished off USA’s Mitch Chilson via standing rear-naked choke in the opening round. Here’s the vid, enjoy!

This was, by far, one of the biggest MMA events to hit Southeast Asia. It brought the best of the best among SEA’s MMA fighters and hosted veterans from the UFC, the biggest MMA organization in the world. The event was well-promoted and well-publicized and the attention the organization gave to promoting the fighters was key to its success. I believe that while Pinoy fighters in the URCC and Fearless Fighting are growing in experience and skill-level, we need to promote the fighters better, and not just the organization, for MMA in the Philippines to really explode.

Nevertheless, the One Championship FC was a success and served as a testament to the ever-growing popularity of MMA and to the invaluable potential of Asian and Pinoy fighters.
