Rafael Dos Anjos vs. Robbie Lawler booked for UFC Winnipeg’s main event

Rafael Dos Anjos could secure a title shot if he wins his next bout.

The Brazilian referred to as RDA will take on former UFC welterweight champ Robbie Lawler at UFC Fight Night Winnipeg, happening on Dec 17 (PH Time).

RDA is the former UFC lightweight champ who has gone 2-0 since moving to welterweight mid-2017. He’s beaten top welterweights Tarec Saffiedine and Neil Magny to secure the No. 5 spot on the UFC’s welterweight ranking.

Lawler, meanwhile, is coming off a close decision victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in July following his KO title loss to Tyron Woodley a year before. The fighter of Filipino and American decent is currently the No. 1-ranked welterweight in the UFC, just behind the reining champion.

Several sources have confirmed this bout, and RDA announced the match up via social media, claiming that this is the UFC’s unofficial interim welterweight title fight.

He posted:

Two former Champions ranked #1 and #5 fighting while the current Champ needs months to recover from an injury…if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it MUST be a duck!!! This is an Interim Title Fight no matter what the headlines say!!! Let’s do this @ruthless_rl”
