Meet the Philippines’ newest Pinoy BJJ black belt, Raymond Varilla.

Varilla has long been a high-level competitor and instructor for Deftac Pilipinas. In his latest competition at the Asian Open in Saitama, Japan, he secured the gold medal in the brown belt division.

It was a hard-earned reward for his dedication to the “gentle art,” but to top it all off, he was also awarded his BJJ black belt by professors Alvin Aguilar and Toffy Ilagan the same day as his victory.

Prof. Varilla is the 8th black belter from Deftac Pilipinas. He joins the likes of professors Aguilar, Ilagan, Pichon Garcia, Ali Sulit, TJ Sulit, Ralph Go, and John Baylon (just to name a few) in the growing number of BJJ black belters in the Philippines.
