Silva out, Bisping in for UFC Shanghai

Bisping UFC Shanghai

Former middleweight champ Michael Bisping steps in for Anderson Silva in two weeks for UFC Shanghai.

In a whirlwind of events, UFC Shanghai just got a new headliner.

Entering the weekend, Anderson Silva got flagged by USADA and was subsequently pulled out of his fight with Kelvin Gastelum for the UFC’s first trip to mainland China. And as the promotion scrambled in search of a last-minute replacement, Michael Bisping answered the call.

The former middleweight champion, who just lost his title to the returning Georges St-Pierre at UFC 217, returns in less than two week’s notice to take on number 9 ranked Gastellum. UFC officially announced the match up today.

MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani first reported the development.

“The Count” is currently under a 30-day suspension following his loss to GSP. However, it can be waived by means of doctor’s clearance as according to an article by MMAJunkie.com.

He’ll be taking on Gastelum, who is also coming off a loss to former champ Chris Weidman last July in Long Island, New York.

UFC Shanghai will be staged at the Mercedes-Benz Arena on November 25, 2017 and will be exclusive on UFC Fight Pass.
