Stephen Thompson’s campaign to fight for the UFC welterweight title has paid off, and he’s booked to face the champ Tyron Woodley at UFC 205 in New York City.

UFC 205 is set to be a historic card as the UFC finally touches down in New York, where its ban on MMA was only recently lifted.

Thompson has won 7-straight fights in impressive fashion over top-tier competition like former champ Johny Hendricks and former title-challenger Rory MacDonald.

Following his KO win over Robbie Lawler to win the title earlier this year, Woodley showed no interest in facing Thompson and voiced his interest in a big money fight against Nick Diaz.

Woodley may not get the “big money” opponent he wanted, but he’ll be headlining a “big money” card against a dangerous contender in “Wonderboy” Thompson.

“The Chosen One” Woodley confirmed he’d be fighting Thompson next on the pre-show for the UFC Fight Night 94 weigh-ins.

The UFC NYC card is taking shape and looking stacked with big names. Here are the fights booked for the card so far:

  • Stephen Thompson vs.Tyron Woodley
    Yoel Romero Chris Weidman
    Rashad Evans vs. Tim Kennedy
    Thiago Alves vs. Al Iaquinta
Marcos Rogerio de Lima vs. Gian Villante
    Donald Cerrone vs. Kelvin Gastelum
