Ronda Rousey is back, and she’ll take on the champ Amanda Nunes at UFC 207.

It has just been announced that former UFC women’s bantamweight champ, Ronda Rousey (12-1), will make her UFC return. To make her comeback fight much more spectacular, it was also confirmed that she will be getting a title shot against newly-minted champion, Amanda Nunes (13-4). The fight has been scheduled for UFC 207 on the December 30 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

By the time of the event, it would have been more than a year since her last fight and devastating knockout loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193.

In turn, Miesha Tate stunned the MMA world when she put Holm to sleep in the final round of the UFC 196 co-main to steal the title. The belt would once again change hands at the main event of UFC 200, when Amanda Nunes needed just a little more than three minutes to cap off the milestone card with a title change via rear-naked choke submission. Since Rousey lost the title, it has not yet been successfully defended. Will Nunes finally break the curse of the belt?

The news of the title match also quelled rumors that the dream fight between Rousey and Cris “Cyborg” Justino would finally happen. With the harsh weight cuts that “Cyborg” goes through just to make the catchweight of 140lbs., a win by Rousey would have its pros and cons. For one, it would make a much more interesting fight with Justino, although the title would likely not be on the line. However, should Rousey beat Nunes, would Rousey risk that momentum against a devastating fighter like “Cyborg”?

On the flip side, to assume that Rousey would easily overcome Nunes is to seriously overlook the champ. Both Nunes and Rousey hold similar records in the UFC with 6 wins and 1 loss apiece. The only setback in Nunes’ UFC career was a TKO loss against Cat Zingano back in 2014. She does, however, have wins over Sara McMann (a former title challenger who neutralized Rousey’s judo) and Valentina Shevchenko (who recently beat Holm in her last fight). Nunes definitely has the skills to give the former champ a chance at consecutive losses.

Suffice to say, UFC 207 will be ending the year with a bang.
