UFC Japan gallery: Ovince Saint Preux puts away Okami with third Von Flue choke victory

Ovince Saint Preux

UFC Japan headliner Ovince Saint Preux submits Yushin Okami inside the first round to claim Performance of the Night bonus.

The main event of UFC Japan at Saitama Super Arena ended quickly in favor of “OSP”. In the early stages of the fight, Okami went in for a takedown in an attempt to capitalize on the ground. This spelled Okami’s end after Ovince Saint Preux locked in a Von Flue choke to put away the former UFC middleweight title challenger.

“I was a little shocked when he grabbed my head. Typically, when someone grabs my head, that’s my go-to move. Pretty much (Okami) was falling to sleep while I’m pulling myself out,” Saint Preux said after his victory.

Jessica Andrade bounced back from her loss to reigning UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk with a dominant win over fellow contender Claudia Gadelha. Andrade put on her best performance yet against her compatriot, dominating the fight in spite of a huge cut above her forehead early in the fight. Andrade takes a unanimous win in the scorecards while both ladies receive $50,000 bonus for their “Fight of the Night” performance.

Rolando Gabriel Dy and Filipino-Japanese Syuri Kondo had contrasting results from their respective assignments.

In her Octagon debut, Kondo came out on top against South Korean Chan-Mi Jeon. The 28-year old one-time “Queen of Pancrase” landed more accurate punches in spite of Jeon’s pressure in the later rounds. Meanwhile, Dy suffers his second UFC loss against Team Alpha Male Japan’s Teruto Ishihara.
