URCC middleweight John Adajar wants to shock everyone and claim the vacant title

John Adajar URCC

A few months ago, John Adajar told URCC he wants a fight on the main card. Tonight, he’ll be getting more of what he asked for—a shot for the vacant middleweight championship.

[mks_dropcap style=”square” size=”52″ bg_color=”#1588db” txt_color=”#ffffff”]A[/mks_dropcap] dajar’s impressive URCC debut was a TKO victory over Jericho Tomagan in the undercard of URCC: Fight Night in Taguig City last June. He wanted to return quickly to the cage, but his plan was almost derailed after his initial opponent, Nickson Kola, suffered an injury.

Fortune seems to be in favor of Adajar. URCC President Alvin Aguilar offered him a fight against light-heavyweight champ Chris Hofmann. Needless to say, he didn’t think twice to accept the fight, despite three week’s notice.

“Well, actually, ano lang siya eh, biglaan,” Adajar tells Dojo Drifter after the URCC 28 weigh-ins. “We’re not expecting na magiging championship fight and we’re expecting I’ll be up against Nickson Kola, but sadly he got injured. Pero sabi ko I want fight sa URCC major event so whoever ang ibinigay nila sakin, that will be fine.”

“They asked me if they wanted to fight a ‘bigger fish’ like Hofmann, ang sabi ko, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ Kahit three weeks lang sa akin, that would be fine. Actually, I just wanted to brawl lang naman eh.”

When he first agreed on the bout, it was a non-title fight. The URCC added some spice to the matchup a few weeks later when they announced that the two will vie for the inaugural 185-pound title belt.

A native of Laguna, Adajar says that the title is definitely a huge boost. Especially against Hofmann, who looks to win his second belt after defeating Caloy Baduria earlier this year.

“Added motivation? Well of course, kasi championship fight eh. Every fighter wanted to have the belt naman eh kasi, so oo, motivation as well.”

Entering the fight as the underdog against the Filipino-Swiss Hofmann, “Outlaw” remains unfazed. He aims to continue in defying the odds and represent his team.

“Well, I’m always the underdog naman eh, so every fight, lagi naman silang nasusurprise and I’ll surprise them again tomorrow.”

“So yeah, I’ll be raising the Hitman MMA flag so it will be awesome.” He ends.
