URCC veteran Andrew Benibe gets his BJJ blue belt

Benibe prepares for a training session in MAIC's Gym.

After spending countless hours on the mat at Fight Factory Manila in San Juan, along with his training at Maic’s Gym in Marikina, Andrew Benibe has been awarded his BJJ blue belt under Deftac-Ribeiro black belter Prof. Allan Co.

Benibe has been a pro MMA fighter since 2006. He’s won championships and he’s lost championships in what has been a storied MMA career. And though he has plenty of fighting experience behind him, that hasn’t stopped him from trying to improve on a crucial area of his game: jiu-jitsu.

Benibe is a very formidable fighter who’s made a name for himself in the URCC, but that hasn’t stopped him from putting on a white belt in training and focusing on the basics. It’s a great sign of the former URCC champ’s humility and willingness to improve as a martial artist, and he’s now reaping the benefits.
