Valentina Shevchenko defeats Holly Holm

Valentina Shevchenko

Valentina Shevchenko scores the upset win at UFC on FOX 20 over former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm.

The main¬†event of this Chicago card featured two of the most decorated strikers in the UFC women’s bantamweight division, and the bout did not disappoint. Holm entered this fight hoping to bounce back from her 5th-round submission loss to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in a fight that cost her the championship strap.

Unfortunately for Holm, the fighter from Peru handed her the first back-to-back losses of her pro MMA career.

Schevchenko found her range and her timing against “The Preacher’s Daughter,” picking apart her opponent en route to a unanimous decision win, 49-46 on all scorecards, following their 5-round fight.

With this win, “The Bullet” improves her record to 13-2. She also effectively bounces back from her unanimous decision loss to Amanda Nunes, who has since gone on to win the title over Miesha Tate in the main event of UFC 200 via first-round KO.

After the fight, Shevchenko called for a rematch with Nunes, who is the only woman to have beaten her inside the Octagon.
