White: Nunes vs. Rousey could happen this year

Nunes vs. Rousey could happen within the year, according to UFC president Dana White.

In an interview with Brazilian publication Combate, White said, “There is a great chance of Ronda fighting Amanda Nunes, and I am very confident that Ronda will probably fight before the end of the year.”

Ronda Rousey famously lost her title to Holly Holm in November 2015 in Melbourne Australia. She hasn’t fought since, and her return has remained up in the air. It was once rumored she’d be back in action by November 2016, but then the projection changed to early 2017.

This recent statement by White changes things up, implying that Rousey may be back sooner than expected with a specific opponent in the works.

New rumors are now going about that Rousey will try to reclaim her belt from reigning champ Nunes at the promotion’s year-ender at UFC 207, happening on December 30th in Las Vegas.

The women’s bantamweight belt has changed hands twice since Rousey lost it Holm. Holm failed to defend the belt against Miesha Tate, who then lost the belt to Nunes at UFC 200. Rousey stands as the only person to have defended the women’s bantamweight title. She defended it six consecutive times prior to fighting Holm.
