Yushin Okami replaces injured Shogun Rua at UFC Japan

Yushin Okami is back, and he’ll be fighting in the main event of UFC Japan.

Though this may come as good news to the fans of the former UFC middleweight title-challenger, it comes at a price: Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will no longer be on the card.

UFC Japan, which is set for Saitama this coming weekend, was originally scheduled to have Rua vs. Ovince Saint Preux in a battle of top UFC light heavyweights. However, it was announced during the broadcast of UFC Pittsburgh that Rua had to withdraw due to a knee injury.

With that, Okami, who was released from the promotion in September 2013, will step up on short notice in a weight class above his usual. It may seem like a tall order for the Japanese fighter, but he has a ton of momentum on his side. He’s currently riding a four-fight win streak and has won five of his last seven bouts.
